" United Way Alternative Spring Break Volunteer Service Program" Participation Requirements

1. Eligibility Requirements: Participation is limited to a maximum of 1000 participants who shall be selected by United Way of America (UWA) based on the criteria set forth in this Participation Requirement document. ENTRANTS MUST BE LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE AT TIME OF ENTRY. All selected volunteers are subject to demonstrating eligibility. Applications become the property of UWA and will not be returned.

2. Promotion Period: “United Way’s Alternative Spring Break Volunteer Service Program” (the “Program”) will be posted on unitedway.org (the “Website”), commencing at 12:00 a.m. (EST) around November 8, 2006 and ending at 11:59 p.m. (EST) on or around February, 1 2007.

3. To Enter:
Visit the Website and complete, in its entirety, the required Program application (the “Application”) and the required eligibility release form (the “Eligibility Release Form”). All entrants (a) must submit their Applications electronically on the Website. Applications submitted in accordance with these participation requirements (the “Participation Requirements”) shall be collectively referred to hereinafter as the “Eligible Entries.”
Eligible Entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges comprised of representatives from United Way who will select up to one thousand (1000) volunteers (the “Program Volunteers”) based on the judging criteria set forth below in Section 4. Program Volunteers will be notified by March 1, 2007. Incomplete or inaccurate Applications and/or Eligibility Release Forms will not be considered. Limit one (1) Application per person.
By entering, participants acknowledge compliance with the terms set forth in this Participation Requirement document including, without limitation, all eligibility requirements.

4. Judging:
Program Volunteer Selection: Program Volunteers will be selected by UWA based on the completed Applications, including entrants’ responses to the essay questions. UWA seeks to enlist a diverse group of participants to take part in the Program. Contributing to the overall decision shall include, but shall not be limited to, the following: demonstration of entrant’s leadership experience and/or desire to take a leadership role through the Program, openness to participate in wide range of service activities while on location in the Gulf region, and complete response to questions. Program Volunteers must complete any and all additional required legal documents provided by United Way in connection with the Program, including a general eligibility release form, authorization for a background check, and medical releases. UWA reserves the right to conduct interviews (in person and/or by phone) with some or all of the prospective Program Volunteers at any time during the selection process to clarify any information on their Applications or for any other reason UWA deems necessary in its sole discretion.

Program Volunteers will be notified by March 1, 2007 by email at the address or telephone provided in their respective Applications. UWA will make an attempt to reach each potential Program Volunteer over a 72 hour period. The decisions of UWA are final in all matters relating to this Program.
Upon notification, potential Program Volunteers must call or email UWA at a number to be provided to confirm identity and eligibility, as instructed by UWA within two(2) business days (Monday - Friday between the hours of 9:00 AM (EST) and 56:00 PM (EST)).
All potential Program Volunteers must send a completed and signed Eligibility Release Form either (i) by fax or (ii) via email as a scanned image. Contact information will be provided directly to potential Program Volunteers. If any selected Program Volunteer is unreachable, or if there is no response from a selected Program Volunteer, an alternate Program Volunteer may be chosen, in United Way’s sole discretion from among the remaining Eligible Entries received.

5. Volunteer Program Description/Inclusions:
Up to one thousand (1000) Program Volunteers will be granted the opportunity to travel as a part of UWA’s recovery efforts trip to selected region(s) impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and/or Rita to participate in projects, determined by United Way, that expedite the rebuilding of the region, which may include, debris removal, home repairs, rebuilding or repairing community buildings (the “Volunteer Program”). The Volunteer Program shall consist of up to four service weeks, each with an approximate seven (7) day service project. Each service week of the Volunteer Program will be scheduled to take place on or around the following dates: March 3-10, 2007, March 10-17, 2007, March 17-24, 2007, March 24-31, 2007.) Each service week of the Volunteer Program will include a training seminar (scheduled to take place between the first two days of the program) in the southern Gulf Coast and the surrounding areas(the “Program Locations”). Program Volunteers shall receive (a) group lodging accommodations in community centers and/or campsites in the Program Locations for up to seven (7) days/seven (7) nights, (b) daily ground transport between the group lodging accommodations and from project sites and (c) three (3) scheduled group meals per day in connection for the duration of the Volunteer Program. Participation in the Volunteer Program is on a purely volunteer basis and entrants hereby acknowledge and agree that all other expenses incurred by Program Volunteers in connection with their participation in the Volunteer Program which are not expressly set forth herein shall be the sole responsibility of Program Volunteers, including, without limitation, all costs associated with travel to the Program Locations. Limited funding may be available for those who cannot pay for their travel. If you are interested in participating in the Program but are unable to pay for travel, please note so in the Application, where indicated. Funding is not guaranteed and will be provided on as "as needed" and "first come first served basis", as determined by UWA in its sole discretion.
NOTE: Program Volunteers should be aware that activities in connection with the Volunteer Program may be videotaped and recorded by UWA for use and distribution. The nature of such use and the timing of the same shall be solely determined by UWA.
UWA reserves the right to modify the dates of the Volunteer Program in its sole discretion. Program Volunteers must be available to travel during the scheduled training in order to be eligible to participate in the Volunteer Program.
By participating in the Volunteer Program, Program Volunteers agree to be bound by these Participation Requirements and by the decisions of UWA which are final in all matters relating to the Program.

6. Other Terms and Conditions
Applications containing profanity or obscenity will be rejected. UWA shall become the sole and exclusive owner of all rights to each Application, upon submission of the same, with all right, title and interest thereto. UWA shall have the sole and exclusive right to use the Application, and to license others to do so, in its discretion, in whole or in part, in all media throughout the world in perpetuity. By submitting an Application, entrants warrant that the Application, and all elements contained therein, are original with entrant, or have been fully cleared by entrant, and that neither the Application, nor UWA’s use thereof will infringe any rights of any person or entity. Entrants furthermore confirm that, to the best of their knowledge, any statements made in connection with their respective Application will be true and not violate or infringe any third party’s rights
United Way reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it believes or finds to be tampering, or has tampered with the entry process or the operation of the Program or Website; to be acting in violation of these Participation Requirements; or to be acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person or to have provided inaccurate information on any legal documents submitted in connection with this Program. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY ANY INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE PROGRAM IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, UWA RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH INDIVIDUAL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
United Way is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of email on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website or by any human error which may occur in the processing of Applications, Eligibility Release Forms or any materials submitted in connection with this Program, including damage to participants or to any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participating or downloading materials in this Program. If, for any reason, the Program is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of UWA which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Program or for any reason UWA deems it necessary UWA reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Program. Should the Program be terminated prior to the stated expiration date, notice will be posted on the Website. Entries that have been tampered with or altered will not be considered,
All Program Volunteers must sign (a) an affidavit of eligibility and release of UWA , and any sponsors from any and all liability, claims, demands, and causes of action for personal injury and/or damage, theft, loss, or any other harm suffered in connection with this Program, and/or the travel related to participation in the Program (b) except where prohibited, a promotional release granting the right to use his or her name and likeness for advertising and publicity purposes by UWA , without additional compensation. Entry into this Program constitutes all entrants’ agreement to sign such releases. Noncompliance by any Program Volunteer will result in such Program Volunteer’s immediate disqualification. ANY VIOLATION OF THESE PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS OR ANY BEHAVIOR ON A PROGRAM VOLUNTEER THAT MAY BRING SUCH PARTICIPANT  OR UNITED WAY INTO DISREPUTE (IN UNITED WAY’S SOLE DISCRETION) WILL RESULT IN SUCH PROGRAM VOLUNTEER’S DISQUALIFICATION AS A PROGRAM VOLUNTEER OF " UNITED WAY’S ALTERNATIVE SPRING BREAK VOLUNTEER SERVICE PROGRAM” AND ALL PRIVILEGES AS A PROGRAM VOLUNTEER WILL BE IMMEDIATELY TERMINATED.


United Way reserves the right to conduct background checks on all would-be Program Volunteers
7. All interpretations of these Participation Requirements and the decisions by United Way with respect to all matters related to the Program shall be final.

9. Program Volunteers agree that UWA and its respective affiliated companies, subsidiaries, member organizations and agencies, shall have no liability in connection with the preparation, participation or travel to any Program-related activity.
