Federated Department Stores, and its Macy's and Bloomingdale's store divisions, have a long and generous history of partnership with United Way. In 2004, Federated contributed more than $11.4 million to United Ways across the country - $8.4 million from individual employees and $3 million from the Federated Foundation. Among other National Corporate Leadership companies, this level of support places Federated in the top 25 overall. With Federated's merger with The May Department Stores Company (which gave $10.3 million to United Way through its Foundation and employees in 2004), the number of Macy's stores will double in 2006 and community commitment will remain strong in scores of new Federated cities.

Federated's interest in becoming a United Way National Corporate Leader involved much more than financial commitment. It is the wide-ranging support of Federated for the community, evidenced by the company's cornerstone value of "Give Back," that makes the United Way partnership so strong. Company-wide involvement starts with the leadership team (Chairman Terry Lundgren serves on the United Way of New York Executive Committee) and is especially evident in the engagement of employees nationwide through its "Partners in Time" volunteer program. In 2004, employees gave more than 118,000 hours in service through 2,600 projects with United Way and other nonprofits, valued at more than $2 million. Partners in Time was honored in 2005 with the Points of Light Foundation "Award for Excellence in Workplace Volunteer Programs." Macy's and Bloomingdale's also share the important "Give Back" message through customer campaigns that bring awareness and funds to United Way, partnered agencies and other nonprofit organizations throughout the year.

U.S. Bancorp and its employees have an incredible partnership with United Way. In 2004, U.S. Bancorp contributed a total of $10.1 million to United Ways across the country. Employees generously pledged $5.4 million and the additional $4.7 million was given by the U.S. Bancorp Foundation. Among other National Corporate Leadership companies, this level of support puts U.S. Bancorp in the top 35 overall and highest in corporate per capita giving in their industry.

U.S. Bancorp´s invitation to become a part of United Way of America´s National Corporate Leadership program was, however, based on much more than just their financial commitment to United Way. It is U.S. Bancorp´s passionate commitment to the communities where they live and work that makes this partnership with United Way so incredible. The company-wide commitment to and enthusiasm for United Way starts with the leadership team but is most evident in the engagement of all employees through their volunteer efforts with both United Way and other local programs.

For all these reasons and many more, it is with great pleasure that we welcome U.S. Bancorp as a National Corporate Leader.

Xcel Energy and its employees share a long and generous history of giving to United Way. In 2004, its employees and retirees made their caring count, contributing $2,068,100. The Xcel Energy Foundation matched those gifts dollar-for-dollar, for a total contribution of more than $4.1 million in critical community support. In the last three years, Xcel Energy has increased their giving to United Way by 47%.

The invitation to become a part of United Way of America´s National Corporate Leader program was extended to Xcel Energy because of the importance they place on being engaged in their communities. More than 800 employees and retirees in over 200 company locations volunteered their time and skills to United Way in 2004.
