United Way Receives $10 Million Grant From Lilly Endowment for Hurricane Recovery and Rebuilding
United Way of America (UWA) today announced its UNITEDWAY HURRICANE RESPONSE AND RECOVERY FUND has received a gift of $10 million from Lilly Endowment Inc. This significant grant will be used to provide services to hurricane victims, restore the capacity and infrastructure of social service agencies and stimulate more giving to United Way for recovery and rebuilding of the Gulf Coast areas devastated this hurricane season.

United Way Awards Over $4 Million in Grants to Gulf Coast Region from Hurricane Response Fund in Support of Long-Term Recovery
United Way of America (UWA) today announced that over $4 million in grants from the United Way Hurricane Response and Recovery Fund has been awarded to 29 United Ways in the Gulf Coast region for services to individuals and families impacted by the hurricanes. Depending on the needs of their communities, local United Ways will use the funds for urgently needed services including food, clothing, housing, healthcare, transportation, job training, counseling, childcare assistance, and helping social service agencies regain their capacity.

United Way of America Endorses House Charitable Giving Act and Senate CARE Act
The United Way of America today strongly endorses the House Charitable Giving Act and the Senate Charity Aid, Recovery, and Empowerment Act (CARE Act). The bills contain several provisions strongly supported by United Way of America, including the charitable deduction for nonitemizing taxpayers and funding for Individual Development Accounts (IDAs), which are in both bills, and an increase in funding for the Social Services Block Grant (SSBG), which is in the Senate bill.
